High Tea vs Afternoon Tea means what?

Traditionally "High" Tea means a meat and potato meal around a 5 - 6 pm family dining high table.

Afternoon Tea or "low tea" means a social event enjoyed in the parlor from low tables. Frequently after the butler delivered the tea, sandwiches, scones, and dessert to the parlor, it was the man of the house who delivered the tea and food to the guests as the lady of the house poured the tea. The occasion was used to pass along the community and personal news.

Additional terms: Elevensies or Cream Tea is similar to the Swedish Fika. It is an occasion for tea refreshments with a scone or pastry and tea. It may be enjoyed individually or with family and friends. Basically it is a break for relaxation.

Queen's Tea is all of the food and protocol of the Afternoon Tea but add multiple desserts.

Royale Tea is all of the Afternoon Tea or Queen's Tea but add either champagne before the tea foods or sherry after the desserts.

Now you can be in the "know" as we tell you about our special events.
